On our Bookshelf this Month
September 2024
In a challenge to the cynical ‘nothing is ever free,’ the Buy Nothing Project turns everything on its head. Started in Washington state, the Buy Nothing Project has more than 1 million global members, yet remains a hyper-local community that shares physical items, and also time, experience, and selves. In Zero Waste Melrose’s monthly series, What’s on our Bookshelf this Month?, we highlight books on the subjects of zero waste and sustainability.
In The Buy Nothing, Get Everything Plan: Discover the Joy of Spending Less, Sharing More, and Living Generously, the founders of the Buy Nothing Project, Liesl Clark and Rebecca Rockefeller, share the personal stories and impact of the profoundly simple, yet powerful, act of buying nothing and sharing everything. The authors’ seven-step plan leads us through the shift from a consumer buy mindset to a community share mindset. Actionable tips and practical suggestions encourage a re-think of a trip to the store.
Available online through booksellers and Audible, as well as hoopla, which is accessible for free through the Melrose Public Library.
