This Barrel Take-Back Event is a chance to give away or dispose of non-compliant barrels, or recycle rigid plastic and metal barrels that are no longer usable.
The City of Melrose DPW will host Barrel Take-Back Days at the Melrose High School parking lot on Saturday, August 24, from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM. These events are a way for residents to give away or dispose of non-compliant barrels in an environmentally sustainable way.
A joint Barrel Take-Back and Rigid Plastics Recycling Day will be held on Saturday, October 12 from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the DPW City Yard. To accommodate anyone who is unable to come Saturday, October 12, the City Yard will accept rigid plastics during our normally scheduled city yard hours on October 7, 8, and 10. Outside of those dates, you CANNOT dispose of your old barrels during DPW City Yard hours.
If you don’t need to use one of your old barrels for recycling or yard waste, ask around your neighborhood to see if anyone would like it, or post on a free site for giveaway. There are likely contractors, landscapers, and others who could make good use of spare barrels. All barrels and bins that are not claimed for reuse will be recycled whenever possible, as rigid plastic, scrap metal, etc.
