Considered by many to be an originator, perhaps the originator, of a zero-waste home lifestyle, Bea Johnson propelled the concept into the mainstream by way of her foundational book and her public speaking. Her book is a great primer to get started on your zero-waste journey. She is most well known for naming the fundamental principles of a zero-waste lifestyle referred to as the 5 Rs - refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, rot - and is probably equally famous for reducing her family of four’s annual trash to one quart. Bea’s visionary outlook is captured in her book, from the beginning of simplifying their lifestyle to what the future of zero waste and its legacy can be.
